Instructional material are designed to be practical and accessible, providing clear and concise information on BHR and how it relates to EU frameworks, norms, and standards, as well as address their relevance in the Brazilian context. The material is be based on the latest research and best practices in the field and will be produced in collaboration with experts in BHR, Instituto Ethos and Brazilian policymakers.
Guide for Businesses: Protection of Human Rights and Environmental Defenders
Due to the centrality and strategic importance of COP30 in Belém do Pará in 2025, this Jean Monnet Action decided to invest in producing and launching the so-called “Guide for companies: protection of human rights and environmental defenders”. The emphasis on protecting human rights and environmental defenders proved fertile ground for guiding enterprises’ policies and practices toward this agenda, cascading COP30’s results.
The lauching session took place at The Festival +DH 2026 was held on 1-2 July 2026 in Belém (Pará), as part of the official program of the II Amazon Climate Week.
- Launch of the “Guide for companies: protection of human rights and environmental defenders” (10:30–12:00): developed by Instituto Ethos under the AFD-funded project, covering human rights due diligence, dialogue with communities, territorial risk management and responsible business conduct in contexts of socio-environmental vulnerability. Speakers: Neidinha Suruí (Human Rights Defender), Prof. Rafael Miranda (Jean Monnet CoE / FECAP), Sila Mesquita (Amazon Working Group), moderated by Giovanna Costa (Instituto Ethos).
